Chandigarh

Chandigarh is one of India’s first planned cities internationally known for its architecture and urban planning. Being a union territory, it also serves as the capital to the states of Punjab and Haryana. A pet project of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, it was the replacement city for Lahore which was given to Pakistan.

It is considered to be the cleanest city in India. Architectural wonders and well maintained gardens spot the entire expanse of the city. Located at the foothills of the Shivalik Mountains, Chandigarh enjoys a subtropical climate of hot summers, mild winters, and sometimes variable rainfall.

The Rock Garden houses various art objects some of which have been sculpted using industrial and urban waste of frames, mudguards, forks, handle bars, metal wires etc.

Another attraction is Sukhna Lake which was created by damming a seasonal stream that flows from the Shivalik hills. If you favour water activities like boating and yachting, then Sukna Lake delivers! The tranquillity of the lake and its surroundings is also ideal for meditation and bird watching. Other attractions are the Capitol complex and the Open Hand monument.
